Memphis Belle Operations

Field Training Exercises are the main source of Ground Team Training for senior members and cadets of the Memphis Belle Memorial Squadron. Held throughout the year, these training exercises give members a hands on knowledge of the skills and equipment that they will be using to locate downed aircraft.

Training includes land navigation, first-aid, communications, shelter preparation, locating a distress beacon, and many other skills. Members are given scenarios to simulate and also prepare them for "real life" missions.

The Memphis Belle Memorial Squadron has long been associated with answering the call to complete CAP's search and rescue missions. In the past 15 years this squadron has not missed any single mission which has involved the search for a missing aircraft.

Search and rescue is an important service provided by CAP members, however. CAP still flies 95 percent of all federal inland SAR missions, as directed by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.

During the year members also attend many state exercises as well as Nationally run special activities that are held across the country designed to provide an in-depth and thorough training experience.

While CAP has long been associated with search and rescue missions, its work also includes disaster relief and communications, as well as counter-drug and homeland security missions.

On average, each year CAP members fly more than 100,000 hours in operational missions and save about 100 lives.

CAP has one of the largest unified communications networks in the country, available 24/7.
